I’ve been on the job, with North Star, since 1990. I do pretty
much everything, from rough work to detail. Like the Okerstroms,
I came to work right out of high school, Christ's Household of Faith.
Exterior work is my favorite because any day outside is better
than any day inside!
But wherever the work is, outside or inside, I try to do the kind
of work that makes my boss (Larry Okerstrom) happy.
It feels great to hear from a customer that they’re pleased
with the job. This happens, sometimes, when you chat with them on
a call back and discuss how the progress of the job.
Customers may actually tell us things like "North Star is
legendary"! One particular customer said just that, a guy we’d
already established a good relation with.
Right now I’m working on a three-story addition. We’ve
been working outside one month and are ready to close things in.
The job may run five months. Inside, we have a lot of trim to match,
because the house is over 100 years old. We do some of this trim
work in the shop and some on the job site in the customer’s
home.
My home life includes a wife and a girl born in 2000.
When I get home at the end of the day, I try not to think of job
problems. But sometimes you can’t help it; they just keep you
awake at night. Maybe they’re technical problems. Maybe they’re
how you approach a homeowner. Maybe it’s something like worrying
whether the tarp you left on a roof overnight will keep out all
the water. So far, we’ve been pretty good, and pretty lucky,
on all counts.
